SQL Server Compatibility Level

dbWatch provides DBAs the overview of their database’s compatibility level and displays other attributes of the sql server database they are using.
The compatibility report view enables DBAs to find where they have the potential for performance improvements by upgrading the Compatibility level of a database which might be a version behind.

To view the compatibility level report of your database instances.

• Go to Monitoring
  
  

• Choose Performance > Under the Performance tab select Compatibility
  

In this view displays different attributes, you have the instance name and database name, status and the creation date of your database. Recovery model of your database and the current compatibility level.

Also, in this view you can see the difference, compatibility state and the same compatibility columns – the color coding indicates the difference between the current database compatibility level and what version the server will support.

• Green means the database is on the highest level/version the server will support
• Yellow is one version behind
• Red is two or more versions behind.

The compatibility column is the current database version while the server column shows the latest database version it can support or upgrade to and lastly is the customer column.

The change in compatibility level tells the instance to change its feature sets, it might add new features or remove some old features so be wary of the changes that might affect your existing application.
