Errors before starting the installer

The first step is to download the software. Once downloaded, errors may occur when the installer unpacks. The install executable or zip file might have been damaged during download, and if this is indicated, try first downloading the software again, maybe on a different computer. On Linux an error may sometimes occur with unpack200. This is due to librarys and packages missing in some Linux distros. Take a look at the prerequisites for linux. There is also an install on the download page without an included jre. This is could be another option, but you will then have to install a Java Runtime environment as a seperate install. You can get this from Oracle. On Windows there may sometimes be a dll missing called msvcr71.dll. This dll is included in the product zip file, or dbWatch Support could provide it for you. It needs to be dropped into Windows system and/or system32 folder depending on the version and configuration of Windows.

Problems after install

There are some common problems that have been detected in this or older versions of the software, which already have a known fix:

dbWatch Server does not accept connections from remote computers on Linux. This could be due to several things;

  1. Hostname is not tied to the listening / correct IP address in /etc/hosts. Consult the prerequisites for linux, this is explained there.
  2. dbWatch Server starts up, netstat indicates that it is only listening on ipv6. Disable ipv6 on the server.
  3. The server dbWatch Server resides on has multiple IP addresses and/or is behind a NAT firewall. You need to specify the IP address for dbWatch Server. Read more about how to control this here.
  4. dbWatch Monitor freezes when clicking on Server Extensions on Windows 7, but not on Linux, when connected to same dbWatch Server. Seems to disappear when upgrading Windows 7 to Servicepack 1.
