It is sometimes useful to allow someone external to access your system in a controlled manner. For example, during a support session or when receiving assistance from a consultant.

In dbWatch this process is streamlined through the Remote Support functionality. This creates a temporary user, and gives external access by connecting to a dbWatch Cloud Router. An audit trail is created for all the actions performed by the user, and the audit log is saved. Afterwards the user is deleted and the Cloud Router connection is terminated.

This functionality can be found by clicking the “Remote Support” item on the “Help” menu.

This brings up the Remote Support dialog.

The Cloud Router Connection section defines the URL to the Cloud Router and an access token.
dbWatch offers publicly available Cloud Routers at the connectXX.dbwatch.com URLs. (connect01 should always be available). A random access token is generated, but if you prefer, you can change this to anything you want.

The Create Temporary Support User section defines the user that will be created. A default username is suggested, but you can choose another name if you prefer. Create a password that meets your password policy requirements. Also, specify the Roles you want the user to have.

The Status field will display progress information and audit data.

Click the Activate button when satisfied.

If the connection is successful, the status field will give a summary of the data that you need to provide to the person that you want to connect.
When the temporary user connects, it will be visible in the status field.

The status field will also show the audit trail of the user actions. When the session is complete, the user and the connection are removed and the path to the audit log is shown.
The session will be terminated either by clicking on the Stop button, or by closing the Remote Support dialog.
