Step by step installation
Start the program. Depending on your security settings, you may need to run the installer with administrative privileges, as this creates a service on your computer. Choose run as administrator when you run it. After you do so you will get the following window;
If you have a previous installation of dbWatch you will be given a choice of upgrading or installing a fresh version. If you select upgrade, then some of the steps in this guide will be skipped as settings from the previous installation will be used.
Select the installation option you want and click “Next”.
Select destination for the installation.
If the computer you are installing dbWatch on is to act as the dbWatch Server, you should select all components available. If the computer you are installing on is a workstation that will connect to a dbWatch Server elsewhere, you should select “Monitor”, click “Next” when you have selected the appropriate components for your setup.
Please read the License Agreement carefully before accepting the Agreement. Click the button next to “I accept the agreement” then click “Next.”
If you selected to install to the Server you must now enter your license key, (or use the bundled demo license for testing).
In the server configuration step (shown when installing the Server) you must specify the default port the Server will use to listen for incoming Monitor connections.
You can specify if a service should be created for the Server and if so, what name it should have. If you do not choose to create a service the Server can still be started in console mode.
You can also specify if dbWatch should attempt to autodiscover the instances on your local network.
In the security step (shown when installing the Server) you specify what type of authentication should be used to connect to the Server. “dbWatch Authentication” is a standard username/password scheme and “Active Directory Authentication” lets you use Active Directory to control access to the Server.
You are now ready to install dbWatch, click “Next”.
The installation should take less then a minute on a normal computer.
The installation has now been completed successfully.
Select “Start dbWatch Monitor” to start directly.
What To Do Next
If you did not start the Monitor directly, you need to manually start it. This is located under “All Programs”->”dbWatch”->”dbWatch Monitor 11.0” in the start menu on Windows.
When you start your new dbWatch installation, you will be prompted with the “Add database” wizard. For information about how to add a new database, see the “Add or Remove Database” chapter in this guide.
